History does not belong to us, but we belong to history
-Hans Georg Gadamer <The Book of Philosophy> -
Historical philosopher Hans Georg Gadamer suggests 'talking to history' as a way to broaden the horizon of understanding of the present. This means that in the process of looking back on history to diagnose the present, we can discover the standards and prejudices inherent in us, and we can practice them through dialogue through works of art and texts.
Gray. It has the dictionary meaning of 'black with white like the color of ash'. This ambiguous color of definition, which contains both 'white' and 'black', is represented by the ambiguous color of definition. As a political meaning, it was used as a color of similar symbols for artists, just as it means an unclear middle area even to name a gray zone as a specific area. Gerhard Richter, who is also famous for "Untitled (Grey) 1968", said that gray is a 'color that says nothing' and added that it does not evoke any emotions or associations. In this context, the aggregation series seen in the exhibition of "Grey Age" reduces us to the starting point of an attitude that can immediately see the direction of reconsideration and history that should be taken when assessing the future after Corona in the symbolic gray of Chun Kwang-young.
The artist viewed the canvas and Korean paper pieces of the work as 'a window that projects the curves of human and world history'. The pieces of Korean paper in the work have individual directions but show a phenomenon of understanding, consulting, and harmonizing with each other. Furthermore, by wearing gray in the meaning of 'saying nothing', it throws more opportunities for interpretation and thinking to the viewers. In other words, through the window of Chun Kwang-young, visitors build a window of dialogue with the artist that diagnoses the present from the perspective of each individual and presents the future of the Corona era.
