Museum Ground will host Chun Kwang-young's "Another Gathering" exhibition on Apr. 29. Selected as the official parallel exhibition for the 59th Venice Biennale in three years due to the pandemic, "Chun Kwang-young: Reimagined Times" (2022.04.23-11.27) will display about 40 masterpieces compiled from Chun Kwang-young's collection method at the Palacho Contarini Polynac, a Renaissance architecture in Venice. In response, the museum ground will commemorate the exhibition of the Venice Biennale by its founder, Chun Kwang-young, who has gained international fame, and also offer a new look at his original creative language, "setting," that only the museum ground can present to visitors.221b411e5b90d.png

In this exhibition, I would like you to pay attention to the two aspects of appreciation. One is the temporality of a set. He focuses on the temporality of the old and the old. Heidegger's concept of temporality is that the existence of the existence as an existing being faces the future and carries the past at the same time, and that takes place as the unification of the past, present, and future. In other words, as a mediator who connects the past, the present, and the future, the artist aims not only to create formative beauty but also to convey the aesthetic value of the old and the old. And it is his reproduction method. "At last, the small pieces of Korean paper are reborn by the act of unconsciously creating the collision between information and determining the final 'extinction' and 'death' through shadowing." The method he calls "the act of attaching" is a kind of collage technique. His collective planar work is not a two-dimensional work, but rather a relief that actively embraces space. This spatiality, which cannot be directly recognized in the 'set', evokes anxiety and fear in the viewer, suggesting the orientation of the unknown four-dimensional space beyond the three-dimensional sculpture.

Through this exhibition, we will experience another aspect of the artist's spirit of challenge and experimentation, and look forward to seeing how the time and space of future sets will expand and change, and the horizon of world-class masters who have entered the center of the international art world, such as the Venice Biennale.
